Cristal Union and Apave: a relationship built on trust to ensure the safety of industrial facilities

Cristal Union is one of Europe's leading cooperative groups in the sugar industry. With more than 9,000 cooperative members and 2,000 employees, it produces iconic brands such as Daddy, Erstein and Eridania.

The Erstein site, the industrial heart of Alsace's sugar industry, employs nearly 200 people who process thousands of hectares of regional beet each year, contributing to the local agricultural economy and the sustainability of the sugar industry.

For this project, Apave mobilised a wide range of expertise:

• Management of Pressure Equipment Files (D.E.S.P.)
• Non-destructive testing (NDT) for tank integrity
• Electrical checks to ensure the reliability of installations

In the field, the work was carried out by Nicolas Citerne and Manuel Cantarutti, Apave NDT inspectors at the Mulhouse branch. Their professionalism and mastery of cutting-edge technologies enabled them to carry out:

• Robotic thickness measurements, capable of climbing along metal walls without scaffolding or aerial platforms
• Weld inspection using the ACFM method, which detects discontinuities invisible to the naked eye
• Additional measurements taken on the bottom and roof of the tank
