Managing risks on an unprecedented nuclear decommissioning project
Since 2024, Apave has been supporting EDF in the second phase of the decommissioning of the Brennilis nuclear power plant in Finistère (France).
The teams provide expertise in health and safety coordination to ensure risk management on an industrial site with exceptional constraints. Their assignment involves coordinating the various contracting companies, anticipating radiological risks, and ensuring the implementation of prevention principles throughout the duration of the work.

Securing the construction of an urban heating network in Le Mans
Securing the commissioning of new ship-to-shore cranes
As part of the modernisation of the Le Havre port terminal, Apave teams supported Terminaux de Normandie in the commissioning of nine new ship-to-shore cranes.
This major investment aims to triple the terminal's processing capacity while simultaneously reducing the environmental impact of operations through the progressive electrification of equipment, particularly the yard cranes.
Apave’s assignment took place in two stages:
- Manufacturer verification in China: ensuring equipment compliance with the Machinery Directive, specifically focusing on safety devices and fall prevention systems;
- Commissioning checks at the Port of Le Havre: Verifying the assembly, checking equipment condition following transport, testing the functionality of safety devices, and performing static and dynamic load tests.
These verifications guarantee the safety of future operators who will work with these 2,000-tonne machines, which are capable of lifting 105 tonnes up to a height of 59 metres with a 72-metre outreach.
